Monday March 9

Morning math and then into the main math lesson was another look at communicating how students know that two numbers multiply each other to make a given product. There is more to showing what you know than just writing the equation that is true. Pictures, words, and symbols are all used to convey knowledge. Being organized and clear is key for sharing strategies. After this we worked on writing the paragraphs about the Canadian people the students chose for consideration for the $5 bill. Out of the paragraphs finished, we will choose which ones should be entered.

In the afternoon, the class worked on a newspaper article project for the novel Refugee. Students chose one character that they knew well or remembered a lot about and began making notes about them. The article should have a headline that grabs the reader's attention, as well as a small drawing that helps the writing. The writing should include the name of the character, and some description about that character (age, country of origin, family etc.), the main idea or problem of that story, and at least three main events that took place in that story. The events should be in the order that was in the story so that the writing follows the sequence in the book.

The last part of the day was human sexuality. The grades were split up and today was basically reviewing last years learning for the grade 5s. Rules were established and the lesson went smoothly with serious voices and honest responses.

Reminders:
- parent volunteers that are coming on the field trip this Thursday, please be here by 8:30, or come in with the students
