Wednesday March 4
The kids got their brains working with Word Problem Wednesday this morning. Today we focused on being clear about how they communicated their strategy and solving the problem. They went to music and then came back to class because gym was moved to Monday for this day. We reviewed the math questions that everyone saw how they could be solved in clear and communicative ways. Using words and numbers along with symbols to really explain their thinking was important. After this the class had a big chunk of time to gather facts about their Canadian figure they chose to be considered for the new $5 bill. They used a graphic organizer to help keep their facts organized. Once they have the information needed, which they should now, the next step is to write a short paragraph explaining why their person should be considered for the banknote.
In the afternoon, we had our Evergreen Theatre time. Judith came into the room and we grouped up and went to the gym for a short practice session and to see where we will be performing. We practiced our movements and learned some of our lines. We came back to the classroom and practiced more of our lines. Today was the first day we got our lines, so we practiced it a few times and made some revisions. The most important part of our lines are saying the words at the same time and using expression in our voices.
Once our practice time was over, we worked on using our senses to jot down and explain what we would see, hear, smell, feel (emotion) and feel (physical), when we pretended to be in the picture as one of the characters. Understanding that jot notes are more useful when more detail is given was a good learning lesson for a lot of students. One word jot notes do not really describe enough. The next step is to use these notes and create a short story or paragraph showing all of this through the eyes of someone in the picture.
As a class we took some time and practiced our lines more, trying to add expression to our voices and really make our lines interesting and dramatic.

- Friday at 10:15 is the Evergreen Theatre performance
- next Thursday is the field trip to Glenbow Museum
- order your yearbook by the end of the month
- fee reports went home today if you had payments still pending
